Afternoon tea: Theatres
On the 14th of March Creative Estonia together with British Council are organizing another Afternoon tea event focusing on theatres. It is the last event of the entrepreneurship oriented lecture series that brings outstanding British expertise to Tallinn.
Our guest in March is Ric Green- Operations & Technical Director with Opera North, the only national opera company in England based in the regions.
His primary role is to oversee the realisation of the operas and their presentation at venues throughout the North of England and abroad. He has also been the Development Director representing Opera North for delivery of the £31.5m refurbishment and renovation of the Grand Theatre in Leeds and a new build Opera Centre for Opera North, in partnership with The Grand Theatre Board and Leeds City Council.
He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and pursued a freelance career for a number of years prior to joining the National Theatre in London and then Opera North in Leeds. He has hands-on experience in sound and lighting design as well as production and technical management. He is a principal consultant with Theatresearch, which provides a wide base of theatre consultancy services specialising in the restoration of old theatres.
Consultancy clients have included the Royal Opera House, London, Welsh National Opera and the Coliseum Theatre in Oldham, Sport England (preparation of Performance Space Guide Lines For Schools), the Society of London Theatre and BECTU (a review of the Collective Agreement) and MTG Performance space design development and installation.
He is Director and Chair of Creative Industries Development Agency in Huddersfield; a director of Skillscene, an organisation dedicated to developing technical theatre standards; a director of S4T, a Scottish Theatres Technical Training organisation; a member of the Creative & Cultural Skills Performance Advisory Panel, and a Trustee of Pennine Relate, a charity that provides relationship counseling.
