Cultural Entrepreneurship Conference (CEC)
The Cultural Entrepreneurship Conference (CEC) is organized in the attractive city of Pori in Finland. The city of Pori was founded on the mouth of the Kokemäenjoki river in 1558.
Traditionally Pori has been an industrial and port city, which has rapidly transformed itself into a city of students. Its strong ties to culture have kept the city vigorous for centuries. Please, click here for more information about Pori.
The conference will be hosted by Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku, Pori Unit on 10–11 December 2012. The conference theme, Networked Cultural Heritage and its ‘Impact’ on Place Brands – Global Perspectives on Capturing Value through Entrepreneurial Partnerships, brings out the role that new patterns of activities, relationships and new forms of networking between regions in tandem with cultural production can play in enhancing regional and national competitiveness.
The conference takes place in a grand riverside building, a former Cotton Factory, which nowadays is the University Consortium of Pori (UCPori) – a centre of 4 300 students, 200 experts and four universities operating networked in a multi-science environment.
The conference themes focus on the spatial – physical, symbolic and social – changes that impact on the economy. Papers that consider these issues in relation to the development of smart, sustainable and inclusive regions – the three dimensions of the Europe 2020 strategy – are especially encouraged.
The conference is multidisciplinary (e.g. entrepreneurship, place branding/marketing, cultural business/tourism management, national/regional economy, geography, arts management point of view, cultural heritage, digital culture) in nature and therefore abstracts and full papers from different academic viewpoints are welcome but should focus on the unresolved dilemmas concerning transparency, accountability and legitimacy of decision making in regard to managing regions in the face of multi-level, multi-actor and multi-sectorial challenges. Papers should reflect on the various strengths and weaknesses, challenges and opportunities of networked regions within the context of cultural production enterprise in a globalizing society.
The conference is co-organized by Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku, Pori Unit, Rotterdam School of Management and Copenhagen Business School.
