International interior architecture symposium SISU “The Impact of Space”
The topic of this year’s international interior architecture symposium SISU is “The Impact of Space” and it will take place from 27th to 30th May at Von Krahl Theatre in Tallinn, Estonia.
The symposium, organised by the Estonian Association of Interior Architects and the Department of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design of the Estonian Academy of Arts, offers an exciting programme full of presentations from top professionals to an audience interested in interior architecture, architecture and design. All of SISU will be conducted in English, thus being easily accessible to colleagues from other countries.
According to Tüüne-Kristin Vaikla, the c creative director of SISU, this year’s focus is on the impact space has on people and vice versa: “SISU will examine how space affects people and how people affect space, or in other words – what kind of human intervention in the space around us tends to inspire us.”
The opening speakers of the symposium are the Dutch duo MerkX+Girod, who attracted notable attention a few years back by creating a contemporary bookshop in a former Dominican church in Maastricht, preserving the unique landmark setting. At SISU, they will focus on their complicated restoration project of the Dutch Council of State, combining a range of different buildings from various periods dating back to the 16th century with the aim to concentrate on the public area, to clarify routing and orientation within the building and to enlarge the number of workplaces and make them more flexible.
In addition to several foreign speakers, who will take the stage in the symposium – Juhani Pallasmaa (Helsinki), Suzie Attiwill (RMIT, Melbourne), Jo Van Den Berghe (LUCA, Sint-Lucas, Brussels), Graeme Brooker (Middlesex University, London), Kees Spanjers (Amsterdam), Per Reinholtz (ECIA, Växjö), Monika Löve (Turin) – many Estonian interior architects and architects will also be present.
